He began his career as a government editor with Fairchild Publications in Washington, before moving to Platts, where he held a variety of positions and reported on a range of subjects, including state and federal energy and environmental policy, Congress, and electricity and natural gas markets. He graduated from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, where he majored in History and English.
